In-Law Suite Conversions
When you make the decision to move another family member into your home, there are many things to consider. Our remodeling team understands this and will work with you to create a vision and plan around your specific needs. There are several conversion options to choose from: renovating a basement, converting a garage, or updating an extra bedroom. We will go over your budget, gather style ideas, and keep your wish list in mind as we design your in-law suite.
Spaces Home Remodeling has years of experience with room conversions and we recognize how important it is to get renovated spaces right.

In-Law Suite Additions
Sometimes you need more space for an in-law suite than your current home allows. In this case, we have a couple of options. We can add a second floor above an existing garage or build a separate, stand-alone structure if there is space on your property and zoning laws allow us to.
For those with a garage, we can add a studio-like apartment, which is a popular choice. This is best for family members who are independent and self-sufficient. Here, we can add a kitchenette and full bathroom.
The other option is to build a stand-alone structure which can be customized to fit your needs. Our team of architects, designers, and builders will work with you to create a plan and walk you through the process from start to finish. It is our goal to not only build you a lovely space that supports your family, but also add value to your home.
Planning Your In-Law Suite
Because there are many design options available, our team will meet with you to determine your needs, vision, budget, and the project must-haves. Our goal is to create an in-law suite that feels like a natural extension of your home.
From a simpler solution, like a room conversion, to a more involved addition with a bathroom and kitchenette, we will provide design, style, and architectural insights to make the space efficient, beautiful, and comfortable.
Our team has years of experience creating in-law suites in the San Francisco area and we look forward to creating yours.

How long does an in-law suite build take?

City/County permit fees will range between $800-$1700. The city/county determines the fees according to the size and cost of the project.

How do we communicate with our customers during the in-law suite project process?
During the renovation process your project manager, the home remodeling team and builders who are involved in the remodel, will be 100% available to you.
After signing the work contract, your project manager will open a group messaging system which includes you, our office and any team members related to your project. You can use this platform to ask questions and request updates. In addition, your project manager will visit the property on a daily basis.
Our home remodeling team will arrive at the property every morning Monday- Friday (if that fits your schedule), in order to meet the project deadline.
Our main goal is for you to be happy with our work and your new home.
Can you also create the design for the in-law suite?
Yes we are a full service Design-Build contractor, meaning we take you from concept to completion including Architectural Design, Interior design, Structural engineering, building permit acquisition and of course Construction.
Will an in-law suite addition add value to my home?
The ROI for in-law suite additions is quite high when compared to most other renovations because you are adding actual square footage to the home. Depending on the type of addition you build, some actually create an ROI higher than the investment itself. Design plays a big factor in this and should never be overlooked!
